Mark your calendars now for next month's PFLAG meeting. Our speaker will be Pat Stone who was a founder and chapter president of the Dallas PFLAG chapter from 1992 - 1998. She has written a book titled AWAKENING: How a 53 year old wife and mother "became" a lesbian. It's a memoir that deals primarily with her coming out after 35 years of marriage and two grown children--including a lesbian daughter--while president of her PFLAG chapter. She spoke to our East Texas PFLAG chapter soon after I "came out" in 2000 and I look forward to hearing her again.

Much of the book speaks of her PFLAG work and the controversy (not too much) that developed when she "came out." She also speaks of other issues in her life at that time--weight issues, financial issues, and her mom's Alzheimer's.
