The Courage to Live

I was deeply touched and humbled by the following poem, handed to me last week by my friend, Toni Liversage. Thank you, Toni.

The Courage to Live
By Toni Liversage 3/09/08, Dedicated to: Troy Carlyle

What a shining example
Of the courage to live
In a world full of judgment
With little compassion to give

The courage to live
In a world full of fear,
Where faults are hid
From the ones we hold dear.

To stand in the Light
And the Love of God’s Grace
Where we see that Bright Light
When we look at your face.

Do you have an idea,
Or do you comprehend
What your Light in this world
Will mean to man?

Can you see how your faith
Helps other surpass pain?
In awe we see you succeed
With little thought of the gain.

What a joy it is — and —
With pleasure we behold
As the miracle of your life
Opens up and unfolds.

Like the pedals of a lotus
With arms open wide
You breathe the breath of God
And take each day in stride.

Reaching out to others
Who might share the same fate,
Having the courage to live
Showing it’s never too late.

To live life to the fullest
And reach out to others.
What an honor it is
To call you My Brother.
