Many thanks to Tam for finding this great quick reference for anyone who says that you can't be Gay and religious.

The way I see it, I can choose whether or not to be religious. I cannot, however, choose whether or not to be gay. Sure, I could do my best to suppress my feelings and homosexual tendencies, but that wouldn't exactly change the fact that I'm gay, not to mention the fact that I'd be extremely dysfunctional and maladjusted. After all, who am I to question God's creation?

It seems to me that in essence, it really is no different than being born with any other involuntary asset, characteristic, or liability, whether it be a given shade of skin tone, birth defect, learning disability, talent, gift, or whatever. Somehow, it just doesn't make sense to me to think that God would discriminate like that. After all, isn't that what the whole concept is about?

It just shouldn't matter or determine whether or not you can be religious. The sooner people realize that sexual orientation isn't necessarily a conscious decision or caused by influence or environment, the better off we'll all be. Unfortunately, they do have a handful of Biblical scriptures on their side. I will, however, also be eating both shell fish and pork this day, but that doesn't seem to bother the fundamentalists quite as much, although it is quite obviously a choice.

As far as the church, who told these people that "sinners" shouldn't be welcome to attend? Isn't that the church's sole purpose?! Well, I mean besides being a regular social outing for those who consider themselves elite or better than the rest of us who are merely cluttering up their perfect little world with REALITY.

Despite having grown up in the Methodist church, as well as having faced my own mortality, personally, I have never seen a vision that would either Damn or Save my soul.

Considering how many other things are contradicted within the text or just flat don't jive anymore, the book is severely outdated. If somebody writes yet another authorized sequel or third testament that sorts all this out, let me know. If I see frogs falling from the sky, or a fiery shrub trying to talk to me, I may think differently. For now, I try not to let all of this bother me too much since I know my sexuality is involuntary. I've spent time until I was blue in the face trying to explain this to people, but since they can't directly relate to it, it usually falls on deaf ears.

I'm more comfortable believing that there is some kind of higher power, greater than me and that's really all I need. If that is God, fine. If it is something else, then that's okay too.

Ox - You might want to stay inside this morning... I was just watching the weather channel... and they're forecasting frogs.

Seriously, though... I agree that this gets tiring, when the best rational reasoning seems to fall on deaf ears. Even Bishop Spong makes the comment that "I do not debate with members of the flat Earth society either."

Okay wise guy, do you foresee a burning bush in my future as well? You know, I do have a thing for hot redheads.

Now... I can't quite put my finger on it... but for some reason, the images of burning bushes & hot redheads have made me queasy (you dog you)...

Hmmm... I'm not a lesbian, Troy. How you thought I was talking about rug-munching is beyond me. Maybe I do have to spell it out for you after all. A picture, perhaps? Let me just put it this way...

Oh, never mind!

Okay, you asked for it.

Yeah... thanks... And it sucks, too, because it's the one I had picked out for the prom.

Well, if it was that special and the stain isn't too big, you may check with bear903. If I remember correctly, he has some lovely oversized broaches in his collection. That way, your date wouldn't even have to buy you a corsage, although, I do hear that wrist corsages are making a come back. Just trying to be helpful here since I seem to have been the cause of your regurgitation.

I would have asked you to the prom myself, but you don't put out, so...
