If you've been watching CNN or other news sources during the past few days, you may be aware of a new strain of Staph infection that is transmitted by skin-to-skin contact, and is one of the most dangerous versions doctors have ever seen.

I just received a message from a friend of mine, who says this is the same strain that put him in a Tyler hospital a few months ago.

Firstly, don't panic. Just wash your hands and make sure you avoid open sores or wounds, which should always be covered in public places. I just watched an interview with a doctor on CNN, who says that (in spite of a recent high school student death) that the Staph infection will not normally be fatal, as long as patients are placed into care.

Of course... all of us should be careful -- but especially those of us with compromised immune systems (HIV, etc) must be especially cautious to avoid placing ourselves at risk.

Yah, just another reason for me to avoid going to the gym.

Wow.. well, you obviously don't need to go to the gym anyway... looking as buff as you do. Nice glasses, by the way.

And to be clear, I'm not aware of anyone getting the dread infection from an ab-flex machine... or the "tummy cruncher"... or from liposuction... or a protein shake.

There have been at least three reported cases at Kilgore College, so that gym is probably the most likely place on campus for transmission, considering that none of those pissy little queens wipe their sweat off of machines and that some of the free weight equipment has ripped or torn padding. That is a breeding ground for bacteria. I spend about half of my time there cleaning equipment before I use it. They should put me on the payroll.

Wow! And here I thought you were just being funny! Perhaps Saturday Night Live's old gag "body condoms" will come into vogue after all.

Understandable. There isn't but one serious bone in my body. Well, not actually a bone, but you get the idea...

You two are hilarious! But I have heard about this and it is something to definitely be aware of....wash your hands people!
