LIVING AUTHENTICALLY-NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY 2009
The Center for Families and P.A.C.E. (People Acting for Change and
Equality) will host Living Authentically-National Coming Out Day 2009.
This will be a support panel for local Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender individuals, couples and families in the process of coming out of the closet.
Areas of support for Living Authentically will be Mind, Body, Spirit and Soul. Mind represents mental health. Body represents physical health. Spirit includes legal matters and social outlets. Soul will cover religious and spiritual needs. Experts in each area will be on hand from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, October 11 at The Center for Families located at 864 Olive Street, Shreveport, LA 71104. Those in need of support are welcome to come in or call (318) 222-0675.
The Living Authentically panel consists of mental and physical health professionals, attorneys, ministers and experts in Transgender concerns and bulling resolution. Representatives of local college Gay-Straight Alliances and LGBT organizations will also be on hand.
October is recognized nationally as Gay History Month. Since 1987, on October 11, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender people and allies
celebrate National Coming Out Day. All over the country there will be
workshops, speakers, rallies, parties and other events all aimed at showing that LGBT people are a valuable part of American culture.
P.A.C.E. will also host a Big Gay Prom on Saturday, October 17 from 7:00 PM to 12:00 AM at artspace in downtown Shreveport.
