EAST TEXAS PFLAG MINUTES
Monday, May 11, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 7:15 pm. by Lou Anne due to the absence of our president, Brad and our vice-president, Gerry. We met at the Tyler Unity Center with 14 in attendance.

Minutes and Treasurer's Report:

No minutes were read, but a treasurer's report was given. We have a balance of $1,299.45.

Introductions:

Everyone had an opportunity to talk about themselves with at least three individuals attending PFLAG for the first time.

Program:

A documentary titled “Straight from the Heart” which is a part of the DVD titled “Unlearning Homophobia” was presented and was very well received. We enjoyed discussing various portions of the DVD and relating it to our situation in East Texas

Business:

David M. checked out the Fox 51 Calendar and indicated they would advertise our PFLAG meetings as long as we notify them at least three weeks in advance. Lou Anne will send him the information to include in the announcements.

David also mentioned an opportunity for PFLAG and TAG to celebrate July 4 together at the lake. More information will be forthcoming in this matter.

Lou Anne and Troy discussed Adopt-a-Highway plans. Troy will complete the application Lou Anne received from the highway department and use the name “Tyler Area Gays” which is the legal name for “Project TAG.” PFLAG and TAG members will join together in cleaning up our portion of the highway, once we receive our assignment from the highway department.

Adjournment:

We adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
