EAST TEXAS PFLAG MINUTESS


Monday, June 8, 2009




The meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m. by Vice-President Gerry. The meeting was at the Tyler Unity Center with 13 attending - Pat Stone, Lou Anne, Brenda, Sandy M., Gerry, Dwight, Troy, Tom, John, Terry, Rhonda, Janet, and Billy. All present had the opportunity to introduce themselves.
Gerry read the PFLAG Mission Statement.

Minutes and Treasurer's Report:


Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's report indicated a balance of $1,134.45.

Business:


Gerry read Brad's letter resigning as President of East Texas PFLAG. Gerry, as vice-president, will assume the office of president. Dwight will assist her.

It was announced that PFLAG would be conducting a Regional Training Conference in Norman, Oklahoma, on Saturday, June 20th. Registration forms were available for anyone wanting to attend.

Troy reported that he has had no response from the Adopt -A- Highway application.

It was announced that East Texas PFLAG has paid the entry fee to participate in the Allan Ross Texas Freedom Parade (Gay Pride) on Sunday, September 20, 2009. at 2:00 p.m. The PFLAG banner was destroyed in the fire at Brad's house. John will investigate a design and the cost of replacing it.

Program:


Gerry introduced our guest speaker, Pat Stone. Pat founded the Dallas PFLAG chapter and has been recognized numerous times for her work in the gay community. She shared her story and portions of her recently published memoirs, AWAKENING: How a 53 year old wife and mother "became a lesbian."
Her presentation, which was followed by a question and answer time, was enjoyed by all.

Adjournment:

The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
